United Way Days of Caring

In 1991, United Way of Allegheny County created Day of Caring. Since then, this once-a-year event has spread to communities nationwide and around the world, and mobilized hundreds of thousands of volunteers! Locally, strong demand has led to the growth of multiple, year-round Days of Caring so that more companies and volunteers can participate in giving back to our community.

Last year United Way surpassed its Days of Caring goals in all categories!

More than 3,500 volunteers from over 60 companies logged more than 23,000 hours on 148 projects for 112 regional non-profit organizations.

That’s community impact! Participation in United Way Days of Caring volunteer projects continues to be an exciting, meaningful and often inspiring opportunity for companies to kick off their own internal campaign.

Participants experience first-hand the critical needs in our community and see how their contributions of volunteer time and financial resources truly do make a difference. Companies benefit from improved morale and teamwork as employees at all levels work together. Nonprofit agencies are able to stretch their capabilities to help serve the many people who need help in our community.

This year, United Way will once again partner with Pittsburgh Cares, from April through December, to coordinate all Days of Caring projects. Pittsburgh Cares is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing community engagement through volunteerism and enhancing the impact of regional service partners. Pittsburgh Cares assists United Way by helping nonprofit organizations develop group projects for posting on the web; companies then view the projects and sign-up for those matching their schedules.
